Before you learn SEO best practices, you need to define SEO. SEO, which stands for search engine optimization, involves a process that improves your site's position in the non-paid, or organic, search results. The higher your website ranks, the more it will be seen.

Luckily, you don’t have to know all the ranking factors Google uses to elevate your website’s rank. After all, Google uses 200+ such factors – criteria that includes backlinks, quality content, and site speed. Many of the factors are only privy to Google.

To make SEO easy to understand, you really just need to know three essential aspects. One of these aspects is on-page SEO. On-page SEO is a practice where a site’s content and HTML source code are optimized so a webpage can be defined and its content optimized. Optimized parts include the page title, meta description, internal links, anchor text, alt-text, and URL.

The next basic aspect of SEO is the site’s content. If your content is poor, your site will not rank. To spice up your site’s SEO activity, you need the third component - quality backlinks. When your site contains quality backlinks, its authority increases and your site is more easily found.
6. Climbing up in the Rankings
Your site also needs to be indexed by the search engines. When you implement the right SEO methods, your rankings on the search engine results page (SERP) will naturally improve.
No website can succeed without the incorporation of SEO. While some of the aspects of search engine optimization are complex, SEO success is based on a few best key practices.
7. SEO Jargon
You should also learn some of the jargon. As noted, SEO practices take place using on-page or off-page SEO. SEO specialists must distinguish among white hat, black hat, and grey hat SEO. White hat SEO involves using the best practices recommended by Google while black hat practices can get you booted off the web. Gray hat practices fall somewhere in between.
8. Reviewing the Basics of On-page and Off-page SEO
On-page, or on-site, SEO involves everything you can do on the site to optimize it – from its content to technical tasks. Off-page, or off-site, SEO includes the practice of getting back links, or lending more authority to your website.
You can be quite creative in this respect, as you have a number of ways you can bump up your ranking. Some of the methods you can use include emailing customers, guest blogging, adding valuable and popular content, and using social media.
Now that you have an idea about how SEO works, you can create a website that is not only navigable and back-link friendly, but one that will position your business for online success.
